Healthy Habits of a Life of Faith
Week 8: July 30
Heart of Serving
In wanting to receive love, it's a powerful practice to give what we receive; otherwise, it just stagnates. Through praying, study, reflection, we can receive a lot from our Heavenly Parent. The next step is to go out and to give. One of the best ways to do so is through serving.
A real life of faith doesn't just exist between us and our Heavenly Parent, but ought to extend and manifest in our relationships, heart and, attitude towards others. God’s principle is to always give first. In the passages below, we’re encouraged to cultivate a similar heart towards others.
- How have you experienced this principle at work in your own life?
- Can you think of a time when in serving and giving first you gained something of meaning and value in return?
On this week's call/meet up:
- Share thoughts on the "weekly inspiration" below and your experiences and tips on incorporating this week's faith habit into your daily life
- Share about other ares of life (school, faith, friends, family, work, etc) that you want support and encouragement in
“The very central truth of my revelation is this: happiness and love come when we live for others, serve others and give of ourselves sacrificially to others. All the subjective power of God will flow into the person who gives unselfishly, investing himself for the sake of others. His meekness makes that person totally ready to receive a limitless amount of blessing.” - Way of Tradition I, 140
"True love gives, forgets that it has given, and continues to give without ceasing. True love gives joyfully.” - True Love and Family
“If you want to receive first, give and take cannot continue. Everyone in the fallen world wants to receive first, but this attitude and motivation can never initiate give and take. If you give something then surely you will gain something. This is the Principle. We need to learn to give first. To apply this simple Principle in our daily life is the best way to take care of our life of faith, to realize God’s word, and to reach the goal of our desire.” - Rev. Young Hwi Kim “Taking care of our Life of Faith, p 31”
“Love only grows by sharing. You can only have more for yourself by giving it away to others.” - Brian Tracy
(These are just suggestions :). We encourage mentees and mentors to try a challenge each week and share your experiences with each other.)
This week, we invite you to pick two people to serve in some small way each day. For an extra challenge, try serving one person you know AND one person you don’t know (person on the bus/train, someone walking down the street, someone at school, etc).
