Healthy Habits of a Life of Faith
Week 3: Feb 11

Prayer II

Part of the journey of growing in our faith means that we won’t always know what to do, where to go, how to respond to situations that come our way.  But prayer can be a powerful tool to seek guidance from our Heavenly Parent and gain a perspective far greater than our own.

Prayer is a powerful source of guidance.  If we make it a habit to turn to God when we're confused, struggling, or don't know what to do, we can receive incredible guidance.  Of course, going to people for advice is important and valuable, but before going to others, first go to God.  Whatever you're faced with is unique to you.  Thus, the answers you receive from God are more powerful and personal that the answers you can receive from others.  God knows you intimately, and knows your heart 100% and if you pray you’ll find your answer.

On this week's call/meet up:

  • Have you had an experience where seeking God’s advice and guidance through prayer gave you insight about something you were going through?  What form did your answer take?

Quotes:

“You do not want to leave God far away up in heaven. You want to bring Him a very close distance to you. Also, you want to become one with God where the place is so deep that only you can reach. Where is such a place? Every one of you has one - that is your heart. Once you bring God to your heart, in your mind, then your body cannot be separated from Him. You are always with Him.” -TF WoT I 6

"Prayerful people seldom make mistakes. They can find the answers within themselves. ... When you reach that level of spirituality, you will immediately know what is good and what is bad in your environment." - CSG 1150

Through prayer you receive strength. Through prayer you are given wisdom to know how situations will develop in the future. You will be taught how to deal with every work. The wisdom gained through prayer can equip you for a great mission. Prayer is indispensable if you are pioneering such a path. (104:111, April 15, 1979)

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.” 1 John 5:14

"When we are going the wrong way, prayer guides us to the right direction. (45:247, July 4, 1971)

“You need the basic attitude of sincerity as a foundation of prayer. Otherwise, no prayer will work.” - True Father

Action Step

This week’s challenge comes directly from Father, “Test the power of your prayer. Pray every day for one person (without telling him). Pray tearfully for his well-being, and see what happen. Amazingly, he will feel a magnetic attraction to you. He will feel drawn to you, but he won’t know why."
